Ancestor of the Day for 10 Feb: Mary’s 3rd great grandmother Anne Knudsdatter Lochen, b 24 Jul 1774 and d 10 Feb 1818 in Slidre, Oppland, Norway. On 24 Dec 1793 she married Knud Olsen (Ulven) Alvstad, and it was their son Knud Knudson Lee who brought his wife Berit Jonsdatter Lommen and their children to the US (including eldest daughter and ggm Jøren Lee, who married Jens Blixrud).
Anne’s death and burial are recorded in the Ministerialbok for Slidre Prestegjeld [parish], Oppland Fylke [county] for the period 1814-1830. Like many such registers, although they are grouped by type of record and by date, men and women are recorded separately on facing pages so the years overlap from page to page. She died 10 Feb and the burial is recorded as 08 Mar 1818. I’ve read in other contexts that the “begravelfest dagen” may be the date the grave was consecrated and not necessarily the actual burial date; but then, if it was winter and the ground was frozen and/or snow-covered, they may have had no choice but to wait to perform the burial. interestingly, though, the other entries in the register seem to have about a 3 week time lapse between death and begravelfest dagen even during later months.
The farm where Anne was born and lived was named Lochen, variously spelled Løken or Loeken. I have ancestors on my maternal side from the same general vicinity in Oppland where the name Lokken also shows up; wonder if the paths cross somewhere back in the generations? Or is it a case of a shared place name but not necessarily a shared bloodline?
Always something more to look for.
